L2s are broken because the purpose of L2s are actually to scale the native asset of the chain that the L2 rolls up to. ETH accrues value from L2 usage at the expense of L2 tokens, negating wealth effects from occurring on these chains. The entire system is fundamentally flawed.
This is also why different forms of L1 sharding don’t make sense either (avalanche, cosmos, etc.) You want all activity to just occur on one piece of state. If there isn’t enough blockspace, then that’s a problem that can only be solved with engineering. There are no shortcuts
